A History of the Socialist Party of America
A brief and more objective history of the American socialist party of Eugene Debs and Norman Thomas, which split into three groups in 1973 (Democratic Socialists of America, Social Democrats USA, and Socialist Party USA).
African National Congress
The majority party in the South African parliament, prominent figures include Nelson Mandela and current South African President Thabo Mbeki. Member party of the Socialist International.
Alliance (New Zealand)
An electoral alliance formed by several parties to the left of NZ Labour (several of which split from Labour in the 1980s). Led by Jim Anderton, MP. Received 8% of the vote in the 1999 election and is the minority partner in the coalition government with Labour.
Australian Labor Party
One of the two principal parties in Australia. Has formed national government on several occasions as well as forming government on the state level. Strongly supports the creation of an Australian republic.
Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD)

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)
The largest socialist organization in the United States, and principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. Works to build progressive movements while establishing an openly socialist presence in American politics. Born from the 1973 split of the former Socialist Party of America. Members differ on working with the Democratic Party.
Irish Labour Party
Represented in the Dail as a minor party and has been a junior coalition partner in Irish governments. Absorbed the left-socialist Democratic Left party into its ranks in a 1998 merger.
Labour Party (Britain)
Official site of the Labour Party, Britain's "democratic socialist party", according to the party constitution. Currently led by centrist Prime Minister Tony Blair, who is the chief advocate of the "Third Way" philosophy advanced by author Anthony Giddens.

Movement for Democratic Change
The site of the main labor-based opposition to the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe. Arose out of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in 1998 and led by former ZCTU president Morgan Tsvingirai.
New Democratic Party of Canada
Canada's social democratic party. Formed in 1961 out of a fusion of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and the trade union movement. Has never formed the government federally but provincial sections have formed governments in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Yukon. Current federal leader is Alexa McDonough.
New Zealand Labour Party
Principal party in the New Zealand government. Led by Prime Minister Helen Clark. In the 1980s the party, in government, moved dramatically to the centre instituting a series of neo-liberal economic reforms leading to a number of splits in the party. The party has moved leftwards under Clark.
Party of European Socialists
The caucus representing 214 socialist MEPs, the PES is the largest group in the European Parliament and reflects the values underlying the Socialist, Labour and Social Democratic parties in Europe.

Socialist Party USA
A minority faction of the former Socialist Party of America, who took the name and established a new organization in 1973. The SP-USA claims to be the successor to the old party, and advocates a strictly independent electoral strategy for socialists, but has no elected officials and ballot status only in Florida. Has about 1000 members, and runs a presidential campaign every four years.
